Mulled white wine – a delicious alternative to the classic

Mulled white wine – A delicious alternative to the classic

Recently, another winter alternative has emerged alongside the classic mulled wine. I’m talking about the new trendy drink – mulled white wine.

It’s produced in large quantities in Nuremberg. This drink is especially popular in Franconia. But it has also become very popular outside Germany, in Austria and Northern Italy for example.

What are the differences compared to mulled wine?

There are certain regulations that state what mulled wine and what mulled white wine is. These have been made to determine if the wine meets the criteria for the name of the drink or not.

One of the criteria is the base ingredient. Both red and white wine can be used to make mulled wine. If red wine is used, it can be called just that. But when white wine is used, it must be called mulled white wine.

Both versions, however, must have an alcohol content between 7% and 14.5%. Otherwise, they would not be allowed to be labeled as mulled wine.

Tips for the perfect mulled wine

Do not let the wine boil during the preparation because important aromas will be lost, and the alcohol content will be lowered. A high-quality white wine also has a positive effect on the flavor of mulled wine.

When making mulled wine, it is also important to use good spices that have a nice flavor. The wrong spices might be too bland or bitter, or have flavors that negatively affect the taste.

It is essential to use spices with a lot of flavor, especially when making mulled wine. Good spices are characterized by many flavors that will give your drink a nice touch.

There’s no limit to what you can do. You can experiment as much as you like. Star anise, cloves, lemon or orange peel, and fresh ginger all bring a certain spiciness.
